Medical Pioneer. A key figure in the field of Family Psychotherapy, she was originally trained as an educator and social worker, She was a co-founder of the Mental Health Research Institute (MHRI) in Menlo Park, California, which, under her direction, started the first formal family therapy training program in the world. Satir published a number of important works in her career, among them "Conjoint Family Therapy" (1964), "The New Peoplemaking" (1972), "Your Many Faces," "The Third Birth: Becoming Your Own Decisionmaker," and "Self Esteem." She gained renown in the family therapy field for believing in the innate desire of people to connect with others, and to give and receive love.
