James "Matthew" Gies, 36, of Palm Harbor, FL passed away suddenly on Saturday, September 13, 2014 at home.

A native of St. Petersburg, FL he graduated from Dunedin High School and particpated on the Wrestling Team for four years. He was an Altar Server at St. Luke The Evangelist Catholic Church, Palm Harbor. Matt served in the US Army and earned the rank of Private First Class. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, and Global War on Terrorism Service Medal for his participation in Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Matt enjoyed reading and video games. He was a certified youth diver and an adult black belt in Tai Kwan Do.

A Graveside Service with military honors will be presented by the American Legion Post #273 at 12:45 PM on Friday, September 26, 2014 at Bay Pines National Cemetery, 10000 Bay Pines Boulevard, Bay Pines 33744. A Celebration of Life will follow at his Father and Step-Mother’s home, 1575 Quail Drive, Dunedin, Florida 34698.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Disabled American Veterans. Veterans Funeral Care
