Cyrenus Beecher was born in Bridgewater, Conn., Sept. 15, 1798. Between the ages of 16 and 21, he learned the carpenter trade of Benj. Beech. The following February he started for the west. At the town of Walton, N. Y. he worked at his trade for a year, when he married Miss Betsy Betts. After 3 years he returned to Conn., and remained until 1836, when he, his wife and 6 children started for Ohio. He came up the river to Albany, they took the canal to Buffalo, and from there to Huron, O., by boat. He settled on what is known as the Bostwick Farm, 6 weeks later moving to the farm where he died. In 1840 he hewed most of the timber used in the erection of the first church (Episcopal) built in Wakeman. In 1854 his first wife died. In 1856 he married Miss Julia Booth of Bridgewater, Conn., and brought her to Ohio.
He died of complication of diseases, aged 86 years and 10 mos. Burial was in the Canfield Family cemetery on Sunday.
