The Green Family of Lancashire, England
• 2013
John Green, son of Peter Green and Alice Holcroft, was born the 14th of October 1802, at Preston, Lancashire, England.

He married Mary Bradshaw, daughter of Richard Bradshaw and Margaret Potter. Mary was born April 6, 1809, at Farrington, Lancashire, England, across the river from Preston. After their marriage John became a contractor and bridge builder, moving from place to place.

In the year of 1834, twin girls were born to this couple. They were named Alice and Maria, but the joy only lasted until 1836, when both girls died.

On 26 November 1837, the stork visited the home again leaving another girl. She was named Alice. At this time the couple lived in Bolton, Lancashire.

Nearly six years later the home was again visited by the stork; a boy was left this time. He was named John C. At this time they had moved to Delsgreen in Stafford.

On the 17th of October, 1844, another girl was born, and they named her Margaret. The family was back in Preston by this time. November 20, 1848, John C. died leaving the parents almost broken hearted at the passing of their only son.

On the 16th of October 1850, another daughter was born to this couple. She was given the name of Mary Ann, and she died 7 July 1858. They were living at Tintwhistle at the time Mary Ann was born.

John Green and his wife were very good to the Latter-Day-Saint Elders after they learned who they were. Alice and Margaret were the first to join the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Alice was baptized in the year of 1853. Margaret was baptized January 1853. Next was Mary, the mother, she was baptized 10 January 1854, John, the father, was baptized 10 of March 1854.

John was tall and straight in stature, club shade in complexion. Mary had large bones, large features, square shoulders, very stern, but when she was a friend she was very friendly and one could depend on her as a friend.

After the Greens joined the Church, and even before their home was open to the Elders of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and after John joined the Church, he helped the Elders preach the gospel in England.

Alice was the first child to marry. She married Edmund Buckley on the 17th day of June, 1859, at Ashton Old Church of England.

John Green and his wife Mary left England and came to the United States in the spring of 1862, bringing with them Alice's oldest daughter, Mary Ann. They settled in what we now call Bountiful, just north of Salt Lake City.

The next Spring, 1863, Alice and Edmund came to Utah; but while living in England two children were born to them: Mary Ann and Eliza Ann. Before Edmund and Alice came to the United States, John and Mary had moved farther north to Franklin, which was then in Cache County.

John's wife Mary died Feb. 27, 1879 in Franklin, Idaho. John Green died March 20, 1890 in Franklin, Idaho. They were buried in the Franklin Cemetery.
