He was the son of John Godfrey Harthcock, who is buried in Harlands Cemetery, Mississippi. John Louis Harthcock was the father of Annie Laura (Harthcock) Wood, Lewis Raiford Harthcock, Rosa Belle (Harthcock) Bell, Vernon W. Harthcock and Loula (Harthcock) Shanks. He was the brother of William Edward Harthcock FAG Memorial #15494826.
