HAROLD M. YOUNGBLOOD

Harold Morton Youngblood was born on January 11, 1917 in Webb, Iowa, the son of Morton and Fern (Howard) Youngblood. He was raised and educated in Churdan, Iowa, and moved to the San Francisco area as a young man. He worked at various jobs, including a ticket-taker at a local movie theatre, where he played the violin during intermission. He often told everyone that the only reason he got that job was because he would fit in the suit that was provided, and the three men ahead of him in line wouldn't. He then became employed by Bethlehem Steel, welding in the shipyards, and because this followed the depression, sometimes worked a double shift. He was drafted into the military in 1943, and served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II. Following his discharge he returned to Iowa where he sold insulation. He moved to Algona, and became self-employed in the roofing, siding and insulation business until 1956. He moved back to Churdan and later to Des Moines where he studied to be an auditor. He then became an auditor for the State of Iowa until retired in 1982. On July 14, 1962, he was united in marriage to Isabelle Arlene Stevens in Conrad, and they lived in Marshalltown, later moving to Conrad. He was a member of the Conrad United Methodist Church and the Conrad Lions Club.

Harold is survived by his two children: Jerry (Nancy Colton) Youngblood of Richland, WA and Marjorie Jan (Robert) Huling of Waterloo, NY; three sisters: Genevieve Hayes of Perry, Velma Bertollotti of Northbrook, IL., and Mabel Wika of Park Ridge, IL; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife Isabelle on January 11, 2007.
