George was my great-grandfather. I was only 6 when he died, so I don't have a lot of memories of him, but I know that he always loved my kisses on his cheek. George was born in Baldwinsville, MA near the end of 1908. He was the son of Walter and Hedvig (Nyquist) Taft. After the death of his parents in 1918, George and his younger brother Russell was raised by his older sisters, Edna and Edith. In the late 1920's, he married Ella Mae Stanton. They had a son Charles in 1930 and a daughter Nancy in 1935.

Due to her alcoholism, George divorced Ella and gained custody of the children. In 1961, he bought land in Chester, MA. He built a little house and spent the summers there for years to come. After his daughter settled in California, George spent the winters our there with her. After the summer of 1985, George left his house to his grandaughter, Pamela and left for California, knowing he'd never return to his beloved house. George died that November with his daughter by his side. Today, George and Nancy aren't buried too far from each other in the cemetery.
