Earl Burhan was born on April 12, 1884 in New Buffalo, Berrien Country, Michigan to Isaac and Elizabeth Burhans. During his career, he served the Prosecuting Attorney for Van Buren County from 1913-16, as well as a school teacher and a farmer. He married Harriet E Breed in 1917 and went on to serve as a member of the Michigan State House of Representatives from Van Buren County from 1931 to 1934. Mr. Burhans also campaigned in the primary election for U.S. Representative from Michigan 4th District in 1934. He later returned to the State Legislature as a member of Michigan State Senator from the 8th District in1937 and served until 1942. Mr. Burhans was elected to the University of Michigan Board of Regents in 1942, but resigned later that same year. He died in 1945.
