Obituary is from the Welch Funeral Home, Warsaw, Va. website (www.welchfuneralhomeva.com), posted September 27, 2014:

Gladys Joyner Wright of Richmond, Virginia, formerly of Warsaw, joined the Lord on Saturday, September 27, 2014 after a long illness.

She was born in Southampton County, Virginia on May 22, 1930 to Helen Nance and Marion Ryvers Joyner. Gladys attended Southampton County High School and The College of William and Mary, where she met a University of Virginia student, William Morgan Wright. The two were married in 1952, and moved first to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and then to Winston, North Carolina before settling in Warsaw, Virginia.

Gladys was active in the Warsaw community, and was a member of the Garden Club of the Northern Neck and served as a Den Mother for the Warsaw Cub Scouts. She was a communicant of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Warsaw, where she taught Sunday School and was a member of The Episcopal Church Women and the Altar Guild.

Gladys had three loves in her life: her husband and family, painting, and her cottage home on the Potomac River in Coles Point, Virginia. Her passion for painting was lifelong, but flourished in 2007 when she and Bill moved from Warsaw to Westminster Canterbury in Richmond.

She was predeceased by her parents and her brother, Marion Ryvers Joyner, Jr.

She is survived by numerous family and friends, including her husband of 62 years, William Morgan Wright; her children, Thomas Temple Wright II, Janie Wright Morgan (Pat), Marion Ryvers Wright (Viveca) and William Morgan Wright, Jr. (Laura); her grandchildren, William Morgan Wright III, Emily Simpson Wright, Anna Nance Morgan, Rachael Renee Wright, Katherine Elizabeth Wright and Thomas Felipe Richards Wright; and her nieces and nephews, Lori Guidry, Sherri Douthat, Marion Ryvers Joyner III, and Christopher Joyner.

Gladys was much loved, and will be deeply missed. A Memorial Service will be held on October 1, 2014 at 11:00 AM at the Chapel at Westminster Canterbury in Richmond. The Memorial Service will be followed by the interment at St John’s Episcopal Church in Warsaw, at 3:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. John’s Episcopal Church (PO Box 1093, Warsaw, VA, 22572) or to the Chaplain’s Fund at Westminster Canterbury (1600 Westbrook Avenue, Richmond, VA, 23227).
