She was born on May 28, 1921 in Albion to Thomas and Lida (McCleery) Byford. Bernadine married Ivan Smith on March 10, 1946, and he preceded her in death on August 7, 2008.
Bernadine was a homemaker and also worked alongside her husband on the family farm. She was an expert seamstress, she loved to do handiwork, crochet and will be remembered for the many handmade rugs that graced many area homes.
She was an active member of the Ebenezer United Methodist Church at Samsville, IL.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and ten siblings.
She is survived by her nephew, Kevin (and wife Kathy) Smith of Albion, IL, niece, Mary (and husband Pete) Cerda of Okmulgee, OK, seven great-nephews and nieces and ten great-great nephews and nieces.
Graveside service at Graceland Cemetery, Albion, IL.
There will be no visitation. Family and friends are invited to meet at the cemetery.
