He made his home in Columbia for the past 62 years, and was employed with the Columbia Fire Department for 40 years, retiring seven years ago.
He was a member of Park Street Baptist Church and a member of the Men's Bible Class. He was a veteran of the Spanish American War and a member of The Woodmen of The World.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Mamie Rebecca Hamilton Attebery.
Mr. and Mrs. Attebery celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary in July, 1961. Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Ethel Buggel of Columbia and Mrs. John W. Rauch of Alexandria, Va.; two grandchildren, Airman 3rd John R. Derrick of Columbia and Offutt Air Force Base, Neb,. and Miss Betty Jeane Attebery of Washington, and two sisters, Mrs. James Hutcheson of North Augusta and Mrs. Nellie Ready of Aiken.
A son, Walter L. Attebery, died in April 1960.
Funeral services will be conducted at Dunbar Funeral Home at 5 p. m. Friday by the Rev. Paul Wheeler and the Rev. A. Kenneth Hewitt. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Robert E. Lee, Ward Fulmer, Marvin L. Amick, W. O. Bobb. Luther Moore, and R. L. (Bob) Smith.
Honorary pallbearers will be Chief A. McC. Marsh and members of the Columbia Fire Department, Dr. E. W. Masters and J. B. Tallon.
