Funeral services will be held at 3:00pm, Monday, April 14, 2003, at Dahlonega United Methodist Church for Mr. John C. Johnston, age 60, of Halls Mill Road, Dahlonega. The Reverend Gerry M. Davis and the Reveremd Jody Ray will officiate. Burial will be in Dahlonega Memorial Park. The remains will be placed in state at the church at 2:30pm, Monday.
The family will receive friends from 2-5pm and 7-9pm, Sunday at McKinney Funeral Home, Dahlonega.
Mr. Johnston died Friday, April 11, 2003, at his residence following a brief illness.
Mr. Johnston was born Oct. 8, 1942, in Oklahoma City. A former resident of Marietta and Woodstock, Mr. Johnston had lived in Lumpkin County for the past 10 years. He was a 1964 graduate of North Georgia College and was a captain in the U.S. Army, having served in Vietnam. Mr. Johnston was a member of American Legion Post 201 in Alpharetta, the Atlanta-Peachtree Masonic Lodge No. 59 in Atlanta and was a member of the Dahlonega United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his mother, Lorena Harris Johnston.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Trudi Patton Johnston, Dahlonega; sons and daughter-in-law, Brian and Tera Johnston, Cleveland, Todd Johnston, Kennesaw; stepdaughter, Angie Maher, Dahlonega; stepsons and stepdaughter-in-law, Chris Maher, Dawsonville, and Jeff and Deanna Maher, Cumming; grandchildren, Kelsey Maher, Carrie Maher and Anna Maher; father and stepmother, Carroll and Louise Johnston, Duncan, Okla.; sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and Bill Lumpkin, Marietta, and several nieces and nephews.
