Son of William C. & Amelia (Fogel) Lichtenwalner and husband to Jennie H. (Seiple) Lichtenwalner, daughter of Martin & Eliza Seiple. Fred was a prominent banker and financier in Allentown. After attending public school until he was 14, he became a messenger for the Allentown National Bank. He was promoted rapidly and served seven years as receiving teller. He remained with the company for 23 years. In October, 1905 Citizen's Deposit & Trust Company selected him as their treasurer and secretary. Eventually he became their president. He was also director of People's Trust Company of Bethlehem, spent 19 years as treasurer and secretary of Mutual Loan & Building Association, was treasurer for the Lehigh County almshouse for 12 years, and deputy country treasurer from 1899 to 1904.
