Gordon, after graduating from Princeton Theological Seminary, went first to Cranford NJ. He went second to Westminster Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia and third (in 1917) to England to the British YMCA, and fourth (in 1919) to Merchantville NJ where he served until his death. He never married. In an interview with David Devorkin his niece Margaret said of her favorite uncle that "He was marvelous with children. He could organize games. His Sunday School was three times as big as his church, and the kids followed him just like the Pied Piper. He was a good cartoonist.
