The Bazine Advocate, February 1, 1935, Pg. 1:
John James Swanzy was born at Prinston (sic), Illinois February 16, 1840 and department (sic) this life January 22, 1935 at the age of 94 years 11 months and 5 days.

Mr Swanzy came to Kansas in 1885 and homesteaded south of McCracken where he lived until 6 years ago when he moved north of Healy with his son Jay.

He was united in marriage to Maggie Bolton March 30, 1863 who departed this life December 8, 1917.

To this union was born 6 children all of whom are living.

He leaves to mourn his departure 6 children, Lucille, Hugh and Albert of California and Henry J. and William of Healy. 14 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

Services were held at the Catholic Church and interment made in the Catholic cemetery.

The Ness County News, February 2, 1935:
Funeral Services for John James Swanzy, who died at the Jay Swanzy home Tuesday of last week, were held at the Catholic church at McCracken, Wednesday, January 23 at 10 o'clock conducted by Father Butler. Burial was in the St. Mary's cemetery beside his wife.
