HIGHLAND — John R. Petrus of
Highland, Wisconsin, died on Sunday,
October 2, 1983, at Memorial Hospital in
Dodgeville, after a long Illness. Mr.
Petrus was born In Dodgeville, to the
late Hobeika and Minnie (Salzmann)
Petrus. Mr. Petrus was a graduate of the
Highland High School In 1940; and of the
University Law School In 1946. He was
admitted to the State Bar Association on
.October 12, 1946, and was a member of
the Iowa County Bar Association. He
was a member of the Wisconsin
Assembly from 1953 to 1954. He has been
active In the Republican Party. Mr.
Petrus was a member of the Highland
Lions .Club since 1948; a member of the
board of directors of the Cobb State
Bank for 20 years. He was the
administrative assistant to
Congressman Vernon W. Thomson from
1965 to 1966. Mr. Petrus was a member of
St. Anthony's Catholic Church,
Highland. He was married to the former
Joyce Moore at St. Patrick's Catholic
Church in Madison on May 18, 1963. He
was preceded In death by his parents; a
brother, Elmer; and a half-brother,
Norman. He Is survived by his wife,
Joyce, Highland; a sister, Mrs. Ruth
Ann Pierick of Laguna Hills, California;
a niece, Roberta Plerlck of Chicago,
Illinois; a sister-in-law, Mary Petras
Cobban, San Diego, California; two
nephews, Ronald Petras, San Diego and
Robert Petras, Simsbury, Connecticut,
with his two sons, Michael and Gregory.
Other survivors are his cousins.
