Jane Brunson Wallace was a native of New Orleans and came to Gulfport in 1903. She was one of the first professional women in the city, working as a public stenographer and a reporter for both chancery and circuit courts of Harrison County. She married lawyer William Lyon Wallace in 1910 and had three sons, though one died in infancy. The other two eventually became Naval commanders in WWII. Alfred B. "Mike" Wallace was killed in a kamikaze attack off Okinawa in July 1945 (aboard destroyer USS Cassin Young). He graduated from Annapolis in 1939. Jane was a member of the St. Peter's-by-the-Sea Episcopal Church, Daughters of the American Revolution, Daughters of the Confederacy, the city's Garden Club, Women's Club and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Elks Lodge. She managed the campaign of Pat Harrison for Congress in 1910. She lived with her other son Thomas L. Wallace (US Navy) for the three years before her death.
