Merl's first wife, Jenny died in 1949, and he married his second wife, Francis Harris,on January 18, 1952. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Jenny, and second wife Frances.
Survivors include one son, Vergal (Gail) Aydelott, of Hyshem, Montana; daughters, Dian (George) Bauer, of Encampment, Wyoming; Susan (Richard) O'Bryan, of Colome,South Dakota,and his adoptive daughter, Ellen Harnden; six grandchildren and their spouses, nine great-grandchildren, and one brother, George Aydelott of Cheyenne, Wyoming.
