Frederick, son of John Hotchkiss and Susannah Jones, born in New Haven, married Aug 29, 1790, Amelia Hart, daughter of Rev. William Hart and Mary Blague. Frederick was the successor of Rev William Hart, as pastor of the First Church of Saybrook. He graduated from Yale College in 1778.

A genealogy book called "The Hamlin Family, a genealogy of Capt Giles Hamlin of Middletown CT", page 113 states that Fredericks father John Hotchkiss, graduated from Yale in 1748, was slain by the British in defense of New Haven July 5, 1779. His mother, Susannah Jones, was the daughter of the Honorable William Jones, deputy governor, and his wife, Hannah Eaton.
But the Hale listing for the Grove Street Cemetery says that John Hotchkiss died in 1829, and his wife Susannah died in March, age 81 years. There was a Caleb Hotchkiss, who did indeed die in defense of New Haven, on July 5, 1779. The point is, not all family genealogy books are correct!
Rev Frederick Hotchkiss was anti-slavery, and preached his feelings on the subject. See the "Shoreline Times" newspaper, for Saturday, Feb 20, 2016, by Tedd Levy. http://shorelinetimes.com/
