She worked for many years at Enzor Travel, and was manager for a number of years. She traveled to many parts of the world.
She was a long-time volunteer at Baptist Hospital, where her husband had served as vice president.
After retiring, Van took up oil painting as a hobby and became very good at it. She loved animals and often dog sat for friends. Van was an active member of Second Presbyterian Church, since the late 1940s.
Her last charitable act was the donation of her body to Vanderbilt Medical School.
