Frances F. Carpenter, 94, died at the Cambridge Manor Saturday (March 18, 2006).

She was born in Morrill on March 12, 1912, to Oscar and Lillie (Untiedt) Lohr.

At age 3 her family moved to Wyoming to homestead. Her father was killed by a lightening strike, so her mother returned to Bartley to be with family and raise her and her brother. Frances attended school in Bartley, graduating from Bartley High School in 1930.

In 1937, she was married to Thomas D. Carpenter in Bartley. He preceded her in death in 1945. Frances worked at the Bartley Mutual Phone company in Bartley from age 11 until she was 63 when the Cambridge phone company put in dial phones and purchased the Bartley exchange. She also worked for the Bartley equity John Deere dealership and later at the elevator.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Thomas; one son, Roger Carpenter; one brother, Oscar "Bus" Lohr; one son-in-law, Harley Fesler; and a niece, Sharon Howell.

She is survived by her daughter, Elva Fesler of Lincoln; a son, Wayne and wife, Cherly of North Platte; two daughters-in-law, Loretta Carpenter of Cambridge and Roberta Carpenter of Bartley; 5 grandchildren; and 11 great-grand children;

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at the McCook Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Eddie Wright officiating. Interment will be in the Bartley Cemetery. Memorials may be left in Frances's name to either the McCook Assembly of God Church or the Bartley Rescue Squad.
