He was the husband of Mary Ruth (Bream) Billheimer and the son of Rev. Thomas C. and Emma (Ziegler) Billheimer. Albert taught Greek at both Gettysburg College and New York University.

Taught Here For 20 Years, Dies Tuesday

Dr. Albert Billheimer, 86,of 30 Pearl Street, Essex Junction, VT. formerly of Gettysburg, died Tuesday evening at his home.

Born in Reading, a son of the late Thomas and Emma (Ziegler)Billheimer, he was a graduate of Gettysburg College with the class of 1906. He served as an instructor at Gettysburg Academy from 1906 to 1908 and then became a graduate student at Princeton, receiving his Doctor of Philosophy Degree there in 1912.

He joined the faculty of Gettysburg College in 1912 and served as professor of Greek until 1930 when he accepted the position of associate professor of Classics at New York University.

He later became chairman of the Classical department of New YOrk University and served as secretary of the Archaeological Institute of America.

He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church. He wed Mary Ruth Bream, a native of Gettysburg, who was a member of the class of 1913 at Gettysburg College on Sept. 9, 1914.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, David A. Billheimer, Essex Junction, VT., and Thomas W. Billheimer, Solon, Ohio, five grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2:30 at the Monahan Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Dwight F. Putman officating. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Friday afternoon from 1:00 until the time of the service.
