"A terrible automobile accident occurred just outside of Philadelphia, Monday afternoon in which Arthur Larned Ryerson, son of Arthur Ryerson, who owns the estate called Ringwood at the head of Otsego Lake, and John Louis Hoffman were so seriously injured that both died a few hours later. Both young men were students in Yale University, and Ryerson had gone home with his friend Saturday to spend the Easter vacation. On Monday about 1 o'clock they went out for a spin. As they were speeding down Chester road near Bryn Mawr about four hours later, one of the wheels struck a stone. The jar caused Hoffman, who was driving to lose his grip on the steering wheel, and before he could recover it the car swerved sharply from its course and crashed into a telegraph pole ... Hoffman was 21 years old and Ryerson 22. The father and mother of Arthur Ryerson have been travelling in Europe during the past winter. On Tuesday the Rev. Ralph Birdsall, rector of Christ church, received a cablegram from Paris, which stated that they would sail for America on the Titanic Wednesday. The funeral will be held in St. Mark's church, Philadelphia, on Friday, the 19th after which the body will be brought to Cooperstown for interment in Lakewood cemetery."
