A funeral service for Ruth Lorraine Gabriel, 78, formerly of Crystal Lake, will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, at the Norris Funeral Home, 100 S. Third St., St. Charles. Chaplain Todd Burnett will officiate. Born Jan. 21, 1925, in Chicago, the daughter of Hans and Bertha (nee Nilsson) Christensen, she died peacefully Sunday, Nov. 9, 2003, at Delnor Community Hospital in Geneva, surrounded by her nieces and nephews. Burial will be private in Acacia Cemetery, Chicago. A secretary, Mrs. Gabriel retired from Oak Industries in Crystal Lake. She and her husband, Carl, lovingly known as "Buddy," had been married for 45 years and lived in Crystal Lake for many years. Following his death, Ruth moved to be with her niece, Patricia Schnell, in St. Charles. She is survived by a sister, Dorothy Cherry of Salt Lake City, Utah; brother, Arthur Christensen of Thomaston, Conn.; nine nieces and nephews; fourteen great-nieces and -nephews; six great-great-nieces and - nephews; and one great-great-great-niece. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl K. Gabriel on June 4, 1997; brother, Lenoard Christensen; and a sister, Marian McCrum.
