Sergeant Major, 105th Machine Gun Battalion, 27th Division. Enlisted, July 14, 1917, in Troop D, Squadron A Cavalry, New York City. Squadron A Cavalry reorganized for the World War as the 105th Machine Gun Battalion, 27th Division, he was assigned to Company B. Promoted Sergeant Major, April 21, 1918. After training at Camp Wadsworth, SC, the 105th Machine Gun Battalion deployed to Europe, on May 17, 1918, aboard the USS Calomare, from Newport News, VA. Docking at St. Nazaire, France, May 30, 1918. He saw combat in both Belgium & France. On October 17, 1918, he became a student at the Infantry Candidate School, AEF. While at the school he became ill and died of the Grippe, in service, Oct. 28, 1918, France.
