A life-long resident of the area, he began building boats at the Atlantic City Boat Yard in 1897. By 1925, his operation grew so large that it required a move to Lower Bank at the foot of the Mullica River bridge to Egg Harbor City. He continued to operate and expand until he retired in 1954.
He was survived by: his wife, Edith; daughter, Olga Leek Doernbach; son, Cecil; brother, Walter; 7 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
