Paul married Frances Smith on July 27, 1904.
To make a living, he milked cows and raised pigs. In the winter he ran a saw rig; he would go into Verndale, MN early in the morning to saw wood. He had the saw rig mounted on a steel wheel wagon. His daughter Alice said, "With the steel wheel wagon on the snow you could hear it for miles. The horses would have frost hanging from their mouths and nose, and Dad would look the same way. All day long he'd stand outside sawing wood."
In the summer, Paul ran a thrashing machine. His grandson Gene Leslie said there was a whistle on the thrashing machine that you could hear from quite a distance. After finishing a job, as he'd come down the road and get close to home he'd blow the whistle to let the family know he was on the way home.
Paul liked to play Smear and Pinochle, and when he could he would spend all day Saturday in the card room on Main Street in Verndale, MN.
He smoked cigars. He had severe rheumatism, and in later years walked with two canes.
Paul and Frances had seven children:
Niles: who lived to be about 4 years old
Lewis Fred: born July 25, 1908 / died March 1, 1981
Allice Lillian: born Sept. 5, 1913 / died June 21, 1997
Wallace: born Oct. 4, 1918 / died Nov. 22, 1966
Floyd Paul: born Aug. 9, 1923 / died April 19, 1993
Claude Kenneth: born Oct. 19, 1926 / died October 4, 1980
