James Albert Wise, Sr. passed away on January 16, 1973, in Macomb County, Michigan. He was born March 7, 1909, in Junction City, Georgia to John Luther Wise, Sr. and Leola Wise (nee Grantham.) James' middle name was after his uncle, Albert Johnston Wise. James lived with his parents and siblings in Birmingham, Alabama, until the untimely passing of his mother in 1921. James moved to Michigan with his father and brother Terrell (T.G.) to join his brother John L. Jr., who had found work in Michigan with Chevrolet. James' father, John L., Sr. (known as Luther) worked for the railroads, so James became familiar with the work. James worked as a switchman and later a yardmaster for New York Central Railroad in Detroit, Michigan. In 1930, he lived with his brother John L. and sister-in-law Lena Wise (nee Clayton) in Detroit. He married Fern Florence McLachlan, daughter of Gordon Vernor McLachlan and Grace Josephine Ortman, on 19 Mar 1931 in Detroit, Michigan. He and Fern bought a home in Roseville, Michigan, where they raised four sons - James Jr., Gordon, Lawrence (Larry) and Dennis. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He died at age 63, survived by his wife, his four sons, and their families.
