He was born September 19, 1923 in Connersville, Indiana one of four children of Orville and Ethel Biggs Barnes.
He was a 1942 graduate of Connersville High School.
A WWII Army veteran serving from 1942 to 1945, he was a prisoner of war in Germany and received the Purple Heart and a Bronze Star before being honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant.
On February 10, 1951, he married Lillian A. Parton, at the Eastside United Methodist Church in Connersville, and she survives.
He was employed at Design & Manufacturing as a Technical Illustrator.
A charter member of Connersville Baptist Temple, he was also a Lifetime Member of the AMVETS. He was a well known artist in the area along with his brother, Richard.
Survivors besides his wife, Lillian, include two daughters: Mary Beth Byrd, and husband, Rich, of Indianapolis, IN.; and Nancy Barnes of Connersville, IN.; one grandson, Ross Byrd, of Indianapolis, IN.; a brother, Howard Plough, of Connersville, IN., and a nephew, Brad Barnes, of Connersville,IN.
He was preceded in death by: his parents, an infant daughter, Jennifer Barnes; his twin brother, Richard Barnes; a brother, Victor Barnes and a sister, June Johnson.
Family and friends may call from 4-8 PM Monday, January 9, at Miller Moster Robbins Funeral Home, Connersville, IN. Funeral Services will be at the funeral home at 11 AM Tuesday January 10, 2012 with Pastor Tim Billups of Connersville Baptist Temple officiating. Burial with military rites conducted by the Fayette County Veterans Council will be in Dale Cemetery.
