FLORENCE LOUISE TRACHSEL SCHMITKE

June 29, 1917 - October 9, 2014

Florence Louise Trachsel was born on June 29, 1917 to Carl and Louise Staehle Trachsel, and very peacefully passed into Heaven on October 9, 2014.

She was born in Portland and graduated from Hillsboro High School.

She attended Linfield College in McMinnville, and graduated from Northwestern Business College in Portland.

The oldest of five children, she grew up on a dairy farm in Reedville, OR. She had one sister Gladys Boehi of Portland, brothers Loren of Tigard, Howard of Salem and Donald of Salem. Brothers Loren and Donald are deceased.

In 1938, she married Walter Schmitke of Portland and had four children, Richard, Daniel, David, and Carol. The family moved to Falls City in 1944, and to Dallas in 1947.

She worked for Neighbors of Woodcraft Insurance division and American Junior Aircraft Company as secretary and payroll clerk. But for the majority of her life, she was a "stay at home mom", which she says is the "best job in the world."

She enjoyed traveling with her husband to Europe, Japan, Thailand and Canada and other places of interest. Florence is an accomplished musician, playing the piano, organ and vibraharp. She played the organ for Bollman Funeral Home for over 50 years, and at the Salt Creek Baptist for over 60 years.

Her hobbies include her family, sewing, gardening and music. She loves to read God's Word, and has taught children Bible classes for many years. Her favorite season of the year is Spring.

She will be greatly missed by her family, many friends and her church family at Salt Creek. She is survived by her four children, Richard (Judith) of Wilsonville, Daniel (Barbara) of Bend, David (Chris) of Salem, and (Harry) Carol Dunham of Snohomish, Washington, 10 grandchildren and 11 great-children.

She was predeceased by her parents, Carl and Louise Trachsel, her husband, Walter Schmitke, and two brothers, Loren and Donald Trachsel.

Viewing will be from 3:00 to 7:00pm Wednesday, October 15th in the Dallas Mortuary Tribute Center. A memorial service will begin at 1:30pm Thursday, October 16th in the Salt Creek Baptist Church.
