OAKFIELD AND CEDAR RAPIDS IA - Gene Alan Boutilier passed away at home on October 9, 2014 after a courageous battle with cancer. Gene was born in Houlton, October 17, 1961. Gene stared cancer in the face with a positive attitude and amazing courage. He never allowed cancer to stop his enjoyment and lust for life, he liked to make the most of every single day and did to the very end. Gene's two favorite quotes after diagnoses were: "It is what it is", and "I have too much to do to be sick".
Gene and Avis played golf every Monday (even if the heat index was 104) and played pool every Sunday evening, until it was physically impossible for him to do so. The only exception to Sunday evening pool was if the New England Patriots had a Sunday night game, he loved watching football and was a die-hard fan of the Patriots. Gene enjoyed spending time at Spaulding Lake. Everyone on the lake knew when Gene was there due to his camp fires, which could be seen from space and his country music possibly being loud enough to be heard from every camp.
Gene was predeceased by his middle daughter, Holly Boutilier. Gene and Holly are now eternally reunited in Heaven.
He is survived by his wife, Avis (Long) Boutilier, Cedar Rapids IA. Daughters: LeeAnna Boutilier, St. Petersburg, FL and Sarah Boutilier, Cedar Rapids IA. One stepdaughter, Nichole & Joshua Adams, Portland ME. Grandsons: Damon Bragg and Riley Boutilier, St. Petersburg FL. Parents, Leonard and Anne Boutilier, Oakfield ME. Siblings, Barbara Boutilier, Smyrna ME, Brian and Lisa Boutilier, Jill and Willard Bubar and Scott and Michelle Boutilier, all of Oakfield ME. Many special aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Genuine thanks to the staff at Hall-Perrine Cancer Center. Every single person who works there is a true gift from God. They make the cancer journey and the long hours of treatment bearable. They have a genuine love for their job and their patients. Also to Mercy Hospice, they also are Angels who lovingly cared for Gene. Treated him with dignity, made sure he was comfortable and prepared Gene, Avis and Sarah as much as possible for Gene's transition from earth to Heaven.
