William, had two known sisters, Isabella Sherwood who married John Floyd Vass, and Sarah Ann Sherwood who married William Pembroke Atha. Isabella and even Sarah Ann's weddings occurred in the home of Joseph and Caroline Sherwood, in the Fort Spring area of the county, in attendance was their Uncle; John Henry Wykle.

He was married to Mary F. Hedrick, on September 30, 1879, in Monroe County. She was the daughter of George W Hedrick and Rebecca Nowlan Hendrick, of the regional area. Whereas, Rebecca Nowlan, parents were John Nowlan (d.1876) and Florence Graham (b. 1.31.1805) who had married in 1835. William Sherwood and Mary Hedrick, they were married by J. R. Van Horn.
He had been a farmer. He was 67 years old at the time of death.

William and Mary Sherwood, resided on a farm along Hungarts Creek and often went to Talcott, WV, about an hours walk of two miles distance. In the marriage, they had a family with of the following children:
Betty A. Sherwood, born October 30, 1880, daughter.
Son, who was born June 16, 1882.
Joseph Washington Sherwood, 1884, son.
Patrick Coe Sherwood, 1885, son.
Stirea William Sherwood, June 12, 1887, son.
Daughter, Bessie, who was born Nov 2, 1894.
Daughter, who was born Aug 1, 1899, Hungarts Creek.
Twin daughters:
Mary L Sherwood, June 13, 1902 and twin daughter June 15, 1902; J.W.Ford, M.D. at Talcott.
