Eugene "Gene" H. Bohne, 89, passed peacefully Oct. 9, 2014, with his wife at his side at Good Samaritan, Prescott Valley, Ariz., from complications of asbestosis.

He was born Jan. 16, 1924 [1925], in Town of Meeme, Manitowoc County, Wis., to Henry and Ella (Simonsmeier) Bohne. He was the eldest of six.

He was confirmed at St. James UCC in Meeme. As it was in those days, upon completing eight elementary grades at the one-room rural Meeme School, he started working on the family farm. Later he attended a short AG course at the University of Wisconsin in Madison, from 1945-1946. He also completed 16 required semesters of electrical apprenticeship. He was a proud 57-year union member, IBEW Local 494 in Milwaukee.

He married Audrey Antoniewicz on Feb. 14, 1966, at Ascension Lutheran Church in California. He settled in Sussex, Wis., then moved to Newton (Spring Valley) after the purchase of "the old Bohne abandoned dam" and completed rebuilding the structure in 1975. It was enjoyed from then on by many in a park-like setting, especially Lutheran Boys and Girls Pioneers, by invitation for camping and fishing trips.

Gene and Audrey were dedicated Packer fans and together the couple enjoyed hunting and fishing in many states including Alaska and Canada. He was a NRA member for 45 years. Gene volunteered for eight years with the Town of Prescott Valley Board of Appeals and at Yavapai College Performance Hall.

Survivors include his brother, Henry (Arlene of Washington; sister Dorothy (William) Mueller of Manitowoc, Wis.; nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
