Desert Sun Dec 13, 1982 A 20-year-old local woman was killed Sunday night in a traffic accident in Palm Desert Country Club, the California Highway Patrol reported. Marta Harmon, who was in a car with Katrina Chevalier, 20, of Palm Desert, died of multiple injuries early this morning, according to Officer Tom Granger. It is not known which one of the women was driving. The accident occurred on Fred Waring Drive east of Elkhorn Trail around 11:15 p.m.. Granger said. Travis Grove, 17, of La Quinta, the driver of a car eastbound on Fred Waring Drive, attempted to pass the car containing the two women, but instead the two cars sideswiped each other. Granger said. Both drivers lost control of their cars, careening into the open desert off the side of the road, Granger said. Both vehicles were demolished, he added. The two women, Grove and a passenger in Grove’s car, Kerry Kronik, 17, of Palm Springs, were taken to Eisenhower Medical Center in Rancho Mirage, Granger said. According to a hospital spokeswoman, Ms. Harmon died at 3:35 a.m. Ms. Chevalier was listed in critical condition this morning and Grove’s condition was listed as satisfactory. Kronik was treated for minor injuries and released, she said.
