Isaac Lane moved to Iowa at age 19, then Illinois at 21 where he enlisted in the army. He soon decided to join the navy instead, serving on the Iron Clad Gunboat Benton.

At the close of the Civil War, Mr. Lane moved to St. Louis, Missouri where he was married to Helen Frink. The couple moved to Centerville about a year later. They had two sons Frank and James Frink. James died about 1908.

On Nov. 25, 1897, he married Mrs. Susan Majors.
