HESS.--Suddenly, on March 2, at San Francisco, California, ANDREW JACKSON, second son of the late Joseph and Rebecca Hess. Relatives & friends of the family are invited to attend his funeral this Monday, 19th, at 11 o'clock from the residence of his mother, No. 177 German street. (Baltimore Sun, March 19, 1883, p. 2)

The Remains of Andrew Jackson Hess,
who died on Friday, March 2, in San Francisco, Cal., will arrive here today. Mr. Hess was 55 years of age and left Baltimore in 1849. For a number of years he worked as a carpenter. Afterwards he took an active part in politics, and for the past six years he held a position as deputy sheriff. Mr. Hess died suddenly on the same day that Sing Lum a condemned Chinese murderer, whom he was watching, committed suicide. The remains have been embalmed and were sent away from San Francisco on Saturday, March 10. (Baltimore Sun, March 17, 1883, p. 4)
