Eleanor M. "Nora" Serwas, age 100, died Tuesday evening, October 30, 2007, at Creekview South in Evergreen Retirement Community. She was born on November 9, 1906 in Oshkosh to Frank and Johanna (Reichenberger) Miller. She graduated from St. Peter High School, with honors. Nora married Anthony P. Serwas on August 27, 1930 in Oshkosh and he preceded her in death on August 26, 1964.
Nora was employed by Mercy Medical Center as a personnel/payroll clerk. She was a member of St. Jude the Apostle Parish (Sacred Heart site), Altar Rosary Society, Lady Foresters, Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Mercy Medical Center Auxiliary, Order of Franciscan Secular, and was an accompanist for the Young Women's Choir at Sacred Heart Church. Nora also enjoyed card playing (Bridge), flower gardening, art and ceramics, cooking and baking, and was a good seamstress.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary J. Mertz of Oshkosh, and Sister JoAnn Serwas, FSPA, of Neenah; a daughter-in-law, Diann Serwas; seven grandchildren, Diana M. Mertz-Martin, Anthony G. Mertz, Paul J. Mertz, Theodore R. Mertz, Christina J. Mertz, JoAnn F. Mertz, and Lori Serwas; many great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and a dear and faithful friend, Dorothy Ruland of Oshkosh. Preceding Nora in death was her husband; parents; a son, Joseph Serwas on December 18, 1995; a son-in-law, Richard G. Mertz; two brothers and two sisters.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, November 2, 2007, at St. Jude the Apostle Parish, 519 Knapp Street, with the Reverend Thomas Reynebeau officiating. Interment will be Sacred Heart Cemetery, where Nora will be laid to rest next to her beloved Anthony. A time of visitation and sharing of memories will be held on Friday from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m. at the church. Please visit www.seefeldfuneral.com to send online condolences to the family.
