HILLSBOROUGH – Mr. John Morris Archer, a resident of Croasdaile Village for several years, passed away Monday, November 8, 2010, after several years of declining health. He was predeceased by his wife of 40 years, Lura H. Archer.
Mr. Archer was born in Chaska, Tennessee on October 19, 1925, to Luther Lee Archer and Inez Russell Archer. He graduated from Knoxville High School in Knoxville, Tennessee and attended the University of Tennessee and graduated from Southeastern University. Until retirement, he was founder and president of Archer Bonding and Insurance Agency in Burlington, N.C.
Mr. Archer was a member of Hillsborough United Methodist Church for many years and a former member of the Administrative Board and a longtime usher.
The funeral will be conducted on Thursday, November 11, 2010 at 2 p.m. at Hillsborough United Methodist Church, Hillsborough, N.C., by the Rev. Al Horne. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery, Mebane, NC. Visitation will be in the church fellowship hall an hour before the service.
Mr. Archer is survived by his only child, Lisa Lee Archer (William Powell) of Durham; sisters, Vera M. McGinley of Norris, Tennessee and Jena A. Broyles of Maitland, Florida; and a multitude of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, he was also preceded in death by sisters Gladys A. Slagle and Helen A. Cole, both of Knoxville, Tennessee.
Pallbearers will be Peter Kochanski, Johnny Shambley, Ted Powell, and his nephews, David Slagle, Kenny Slagle, Stephen Slagle and Shannon Wiles.
