Never one to wear jeans, Oliver could be considered nothing less than a Southern Gentleman, always ready for the day in slacks and dress shirts, only forgoing the daily tie upon retirement. Born with an adventurous soul, Oliver absolutely loved traveling. Road trips to be exact. He drove from one end of the United States to the other, even loading up his wife Mary and one of their many beloved Chihuahuas, Dixie, and driving to Alaska. Oliver visited many National Parks including The Grand Canyon, Yosemite, Yellowstone, and Glacier. He was very proud that he had been on 5 of the 7 continents. An avid gardener, Oliver was often heard yelling "HUMP GARDEN" encouraging his garden along the way. Strangers will often stop just to comment on what a beautiful yard Oliver maintained. His grass was even green in the winter. A huge Gator Football fan, Saturday's consisted of a constant vigil in front of the TV while Mary prepared a big pot of chili, as well as chips and dip which soon disappeared.
Oliver enjoyed many activities over the years such as Golfing, Pheasant hunts with his faithful Brittany Spaniels, Traveling and Gardening. Always an active member of the church, Oliver spent many years as Sunday School Superintendent, on different boards and committees, volunteering and rarely missed a service.
There is only one event that Oliver dispised...the annual "Hanging of the Christmas Lights". Although, he did enjoy their beauty as long as someone else did the hanging.
Oliver is survived by his loving wife of nearly 63 years Mary Ruth, Sons: Oliver Prentiss Cooper, Jr., Mark Timothy cooper and wife Teresa, Jeffery Harold Cooper and wife Judy, and Scott Alan Cooper, Daughter, Ardis Ruth Covert and husband Benjamin, 17 Grandchildren, Oliver Prentiss III and wife Nicole, John Clinton Cooper and wife Erika, Paul Michael Cooper, Natalie Nicole Maupin and husband Brent, Nathaniel Timothy Cooper, Jeffery Harold Cooper Jr., Marshal Brandley Cooper, and wife Araceli, Kimberly Grace Luzynski, J.
