Bonnie Lou Abbott, 74, of Big Rapids, MI died of lung cancer on Tuesday, October 7, 2003, at her home. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 14, 2003 at Allnutt Funeral Service/Macy Chapel. A graveside service will be Wednesday, October 15, 2003 at 1:00 p.m. at Linn Grove Cemetery. Bonnie was born December 24, 1928 in Elkins, Arkansas to Charles Harvey and Dollie Mae (Patrick) Martin. She married Wayne Abbott on January 4, 1948 in Eaton, Colorado and he preceded her on December 13, 1984. She was a Colorado native and had lived in Big Rapids, Michigan for the last four years. She attended rural schools in Weld County and received her LPN license and bookkeeping certificate. She worked at Weld County General Hospital in her early years and later as a payroll clerk for Monfort of Colorado for over 10 years. She then worked as a bookkeeper at Sign On. She owned and operated Bonnie's Machine Quilting. She loved animals, especially farm animals. She hosted field trips at her unique Victorian home for local schools to see her petting zoo, and she loved antique cars. She was a devoted wife and attended Greeley Baptist Temple. She loved sewing and will be remembered for her quilts. She enjoyed country-western music and dancing. She was devoted to her family and was very involved with MIA, POW and was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and the Quilter's Club. Her sons, James Abbott and his wife Michele of Thomasville, NC and Gerald Abbott and his wife Jan of Mitchell, NE; daughters, Margaret "Peggy" and her husband Dave Withers of Grand Rapids, MI and Patty and her husband Mike Vergara of Greeley, CO; brother, Ralph Martin of Port Sanilac, MI; sisters, Bessie Didyke of Royal Oak, MI and Annabelle Greene of Cadiz, KY; brothers, William Martin of Bremerton, WA, Kenny Martin of Trenton, MI and Harold Martin of Dearborn, MI; ten grandchildren and three great grandchild survive her. Her parents, husband and infant son, Joey Abbott preceded her in death. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society in care of Allnutt Funeral Service, 702 13th Street, Greeley, CO 80631.
