4. Mabel Key-Smith, b. 21 Mar 1875, d. 21 Oct 1957; m. Brig. General Theodore Parker Kane.

FUNERAL OF ALICE KEY SMITH
Was Granddaughter of Author of The Star-Spangled Banner

Funeral services for Mrs Alice Key Smith, a granddaughter of Francis Scott Key, author of The Star-Spangled Banner, were held yesterday afternoon at the Louise Home Fifteenth street and Massachusetts avenue. Rev Dr Alfred Harding rector of St Paul's Episcopal Church officiated. The interment was at Rock Creek Cemetery.

Mrs Smith was born in Maryland in 1834 on the country estate of her father Francis Scott Key Jr., eldest son of the famous author. She grew up amid the social advantages which were enjoyed by the prominent Maryland families of that time. She was married to Dr. James Smith at St Paul's Church, Baltimore in 1869. Dr and Mrs Smith resided for a number of years in Mantua, Va., later removing to Baltimore and then to Fredericksburg, Va. Dr. and Mrs Smith came to this city in 1882 and in 1900 Dr. Smith died here. Two years later Mrs Key Smith took up her residence at the Louise Home.

Francis Scott Key Smith of the District bar and Miss Mabel Key Smith, also of this city, survive the dead woman. Another daughter, Miss Jane Smith [sic], died several years ago.
