Vernon "Cork" De Young, 68, of Le Mars died Thursday, May 2, 1996, a Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars.

He was born June 31927, to Henry and Pearl (Kewley) De Young in Garfield Township, rural Plymouth County. He grew up and received his education in Le Mars. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He had worked in building construction for his brother, Roger De Young. He also worked for several years as a painter. He enjoyed fishing and was a member of the American Legion Wasmer Pos 241 of Le Mars.

Survivors include his brother and sister-in-law, Joe and Charalotte De Young of Craig; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Henry De Young.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars with the Rev. Lynn Potter officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery. Visitation is after 2 p.m. today (Friday) at the funeral home.
