Mayme Holso, 93 of Spearfish, died on October 22, 2014 at the David M Dorsett Healthcare Center.
Mayme was born in Lead, South Dakota on September 7, 1921 she was the daughter of Adolph Overby and Blanche Overby. She graduated from Lead High School in 1935.
On June 25, 1939 she married the love of her life, Elvin Holso to whom she was married for 59 years. They made their home in Lead until 1990 until they moved to Spearfish, which they both loved.
Mayme was very active in the Lead community. She was secretary of the Bethel Lutheran Church for several years where she also taught Sunday school for 35 years. Mayme never met a stranger.
All were welcome in her home and no one ever left without first having coffee, cookies, pie or cake.
She was well known and loved by all of the neighborhood children who would frequently appear at her kitchen door hoping for a cookie.
They were never disappointed! Mayme had a huge heart and was a loyal wife, mother and friend. She had a great sense of humor and always found something to laugh about.
Mayme was a great storyteller and loved sharing tales of years gone by. We will surely miss those stories and the laughter that accompanied them.

She is survived by her son, a daughter, four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Elvin; son, David; brother, Albin Ovebry and her dearest lifelong friend Maria Holso.

A special thanks to the caretakers at Burr’s Tender Care who provided Mayme with a loving and caring home for the last five years of her life. Also, a special thanks to the caregivers at the Dorsett home who made sure Mayme was well tended to and comfortable in the last few weeks of her life.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM on Friday, October 24, 2014 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Spearfish. Burial will follow at Mountain Lawn Cemetery in Lead. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church.
Arrangements are under the care of Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapels and Crematory Service of Spearfish.
