WITHERBEE, N.Y. - Joseph "Joe" Jacobs, age 97, of Witherbee, passed away on Wednesday morning, November 3th 2021 at the Elizabethtown Community Hospital in Elizabethtown N.Y.
Joe was born on May 22nd 1924 in Witherbee N.Y., he was the son of George and Julia (Nagy) Jacobs.
He was a graduate of Mineville High School & Albany Business College.
He was a World War II Navy Veteran serving as a U.S. Navy Petty Officer 1st Class, Engineer 7th Fleet, served during World War II 1943-1946 patrolling the Pacific.
He married Mary Lou Burhart on November 24th 1946 at the St. Michael's Church in Witherbee, New York. They celebrated 68 years together and had four children; two daughters and two sons. She predeceased him on March 28th 2015.
He had worked for the Republic Steel Corporation in Mineville, N.Y.
He was a member of the North Country Honor Flight #27 in 2019.
He was also a member of the Port Henry Knights of Columbus and the VFW.
He was predeceased by his parents, his wife; Mary Lou Jacobs in 2015, two daughters; Alice Ann Jacobs in 2021 and Roberta "Bobbie" Rae (Jacobs) Timmerman on July 21st 2010, four sisters; Julia M. (Jacobs) Podres in 2016, Mary (Jacobs) Kovacs in 2020, Rose Marie (Jacobs) Barcomb in 2004, and Theresa "Tess" (Laslow) Brichacek in 1982, and two brothers; George Jacobs in 1996 and Alexander Laslow in 1973.
