E. Virginia (McCourt) O'Connor (June 11, 1929 – October 21, 2014) E. Virginia O’Connor, 85, of South Yarmouth, formerly of Andover, died Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at home with her family at her side following a long illness.

Virginia was the beloved wife of her husband of 54 years, Donald T. O’Connor, who predeceased her in 2011. Gini leaves behind her three children, Patrick J. O’Connor of Yarmouthport, Michael T. O’Connor and his wife Dianne of Portland, OR, Kathleen A. Van Corbach and her husband Paul of Groton; her seven grandchildren, Joan, Brandon, Diana, Ruby, Edward, Clancy and Ashley; her two great grandchildren, Jack and Tessa, and her cousin, Ann Watters of RI as well as many nieces and nephews.

Virginia was born in Boston, MA, the daughter of the late Oswald and Eileen (Sheehan) McCourt. She graduated from Boston University as a medical secretary in 1951. She was president of her class.

Following her graduation Gini became a medical secretary at the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital. She was so proud to have worked under the surgeon who performed the first heart valve transplant. Gini met Donald when they both worked at Turner Construction. Gini taught the Medical Assistant Program at Essex Agricultural and Technical Institute for 20 years. In 1995, Gini and Don retired to their home in South Yarmouth.

Gini was an active member of the St. Pius X Parish in South Yarmouth. Singing in the choir for many years brought her great joy. Gini served as a co-chairperson for the St. Pius Christmas Fair. For several years Gini and Don were also in charge of collecting and mailing the Christmas gifts to the children on the Indian reservation in South Dakota. The St. Pius X Women’s Club awarded Gini with the Angel pin.

Gini and Don delivered Meals on Wheels and volunteered at the Cape Cod Melody Tent. They thoroughly enjoyed traveling to Alaska, the Panama Canal, Arizona and also attended an Elderhostel in Hawaii. Gini was an avid card player, a game she picked up in her college days, and she never turned down an opportunity to play Bridge. She also loved playing cards with all of her friends in the Crazy Cards group.

Gini loved visiting her grandchildren on the west coast and enjoyed every minute of the time her children and grandchildren vacationed with she and Don on Cape Cod. She celebrated every last day she was given while living in Groton, MA with Paul, Kathy, Edward and Ashley for the last eight months.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Friday, October 24th from 4-7 PM at the Morris, O’Connor & Blute Funeral Home, 58 Long Pond Drive, South Yarmouth.
