David Robert Greiner, 52, of Plainville, passed away on October 20, 2014. A long time resident of Farmington and New Britain, David is pre-deceased by his beloved parents Donald and Carol (Vespasian) Greiner. David was born in Cleveland Ohio and moved to Farmington in 1969 where he grew up with his younger brother Scott on Berkshire Dr. He was well known in the neighborhood and would be seen passing by on his various modes of transportation. The Greiners became life long family friends with their neighbors the Amaios who they enjoyed celebrating the holidays and events with each year. At age 18, David moved to New Britain Memorial, now known as Hospital for Special Care, where he knew everyone. On any given day he could be seen wheeling around the grounds and moving about through the neighborhood on his many adventures. David had a passion for fishing with his dad, brother and friends as well as a love for gardening and watching sports. He always enjoyed a weekend get away with the boys when they would travel to the Greiner Cabin in Jamaica, Vermont. Loved by all, David made friends wherever he went and remembered everyone with his own special nicknames. He was especially close to his good friend Bob Wassik, who he loved to hang out with in the kitchen. David is survived by his brother Scott Greiner and his wife Theresa of Unionville as well as his nephew Anthony and niece Savanah. Nothing meant more to David then spending time with his family, and being with his brother who considered David the strongest man he knew and his hero. He was a courageous man who fought his battles valiantly and with optimism. David was a blessing to everyone that knew him. To all who have celebrated with David, shared a beer, a laugh or a hug, we thank you. Although David was confined to a wheelchair, there is no doubt he lived his life to the fullest. David's family would like to thank the residents and staff of his Plainville home for their love and support through out the years as well as C.C.A.R.C and the Hospital of Central Connecticut. David has had some wonderful caregivers who have showed him love, patience, kindness and friendship. Funeral services will begin Saturday, October 25, 2014 at 9:00am from the New Britain Memorial Donald D. Sagarino Funeral Home, 444 Farmington Ave., New Britain followed by his funeral liturgy at 10:00am in St. Mary's Star of the Sea Church, Unionville, followed by committal prayers in Riverside Cemetery, Farmington. Visitation hours will be held Friday, October 24, 2014 from 4-7pm at the funeral home. For directions, online messages or to view his photo tribute, please visit www.newbritainsagarino.com.
