Mother Mary Angeline (Ellen Marie Garvan) of the Order of Sisters of Mercy, superior of Mt St Joseph's Academy, West Hartford, died at St Francis's Hospital after a short illness.
She was born in East Hartford, a daughter of the late Patrick and Mary (Carroll) Garvan, and leaves one brother, John Garvan, of Hartford; a sister, Mrs John Cavanaugh of South Norwalk and several nieces and nephews.
She was also a sister of the late Francis P Garvan of New York; the late Mrs Genevieve Garvan Brandy Macaulay of Long Island; the late Judge Edward Garvan and the late Thomas Garvan of Hartford.
Mother Mary Angeline had entered the community of the Sisters of Mercy on September 24, 1892, and had ben Reverend Mother and bursar of the community and superior of St Joseph College. She had been graduated from the old academy when it was at 160 Farmington Avenue, and she opened the Hamilton Heights Academy in 1908.
