His nickname was :The Fighting Doc." As a medic, he died while trying to save two fellow soldiers in the Kandeya Tribal Lands, Mashonaland, Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe).
He was first buried in Que Que, Rhodesia, then his remains were re-interred in Columbus, OH. His journals, entitled "A Martyr Speaks" were published by his mother in 1988.
