James Pierce (JP) Barnes was born in Rogers, Texas to Ross H. & Julia Elizabeth Brisbane Barnes on 01-Dec-1893. His WWI Registration card indicated he was working in 1917 as a farm laborer in Crowder, Oklahoma and described him as short and slender with grey eyes and black hair. He married Edna Reynolds in Kenedy, Texas in April 1927. Six children were born to the union over the next 13 years. The family lived in various locations in South & Central Texas before divorcing in the mid-1940's.

J.P. lived the last 27 years of his life with his daughter, Lucy in Manteca, California and it was there that he passed away on 24-Mar-1977. J. P. was survived by his children, Juanita Bailey, Lucy Keith (Ezra Jr), Mildred Roe, Eddie Ray Barnes (DaOnne), Sonny Barnes (Dru) and 18 grandchildren. He was predeceased by his oldest daughter Ruby Faye.
