Lottie Mae White, age 92, of Hammond, passed away peacefully Monday, December 3, 2012.
She is survived by eight children: Helen Parks of Largo, FL, Jewel (Conner) Shea of Griffith, IN, James (Alice) White of Hobart, IN, Audrey (Tom) Tatum of Hammond, IN, Cathryn White of Little Rock, AK, Ralph White of Peru, IL, Alice (Bob) Stephens of Dyer, IN, and Carol (Alex) Benedict of Fair Oaks, IN; son-in-law, Ralph Powell of Peru, IL; 26 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren; 11 great- great grandchildren; one brother, Herschel "Bud" (Virginia) Abbott of Statesboro, GA; several nieces, nephews, and a host of dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Cecil L. White; daughter, Evelyn Powell; three grandchildren; parents: Marshall and Ollie Abbott; sister, Ella Powell; two brothers: Otis Lindolph Abbott and Norman St. Elmo Abbott.
Funeral services will be held Friday, December 7, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Bocken Funeral Home, 7042 Kennedy Avenue, Hammond (Hessville), IN with Pastor Don Good officiating.
Burial will follow at Chapel Lawn Cemetery in Schererville, IN.
Friends are invited to meet with the family on Thursday, December 6, 2012 at Bocken Funeral Home from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
Lottie was born and raised in Simpson, IL and had been a resident of the Hessville section of Hammond since 1960. She attended both Woodmar Baptist and Hessville Baptist Churches. Lottie loved reading, working crossword puzzles, and embroidery. She was devoted to all her grandchildren; they were her life.
Lottie was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, sister, and aunt whose family was her number one priority. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting that memorials be made to: The Billy Graham Crusade or the World Home Bible League.
